Zone Labs Launches Media Campaign to Help Internet Users Defend the Net

Resources for Consumers at Safe.ZoneLabs.com, Sponsorship of SafeKids.com

San Francisco, CA - September 29, 2005 - Zone Labs®, a Check Point® company, has built its brand by protecting consumers online with easy-to-use, innovative security in its ZoneAlarm® personal computer security software. Today, the company announced its increased commitment with the launch of a new media campaign, called “Defend the ‘Net,” featuring tools and resources to keep people safe online.

The multi-faceted initiative will help consumers understand how to protect their families from the myriad threats lurking on the Internet. At the new consumer education portal, safe.zonelabs.com, people can now download a free, 18-page guide called “How to Protect your Family Online.” The guide, written in conjunction with the security experts at Zone Labs, offers safety tips for Internet use and information on software-based security programs, as well as real-life explanations of the most insidious threats such as spyware, viruses, hackers and more.

“At Zone Labs, we have always been committed to keeping people safe online,” said Laura Yecies, general manager at Zone Labs. “With safe.zonelabs.com, we are now arming consumers with knowledge and tools in addition to the strongest technology available to keep their families safe from hackers and other online predators.”

At the safe.zonelabs.com site, consumers can also download the company's free, award-winning ZoneAlarm personal firewall, designed for anyone looking for strong, basic protection from Internet threats.

Additionally, Zone Labs recently signed on as the primary sponsor of the popular SafeKids.com, a comprehensive Web site dedicated to helping families make smart choices about technology and the Internet. SafeKids.com is the brainchild of award-winning journalist Larry Magid and features relevant news and analysis, easy-to-understand descriptions of common Internet threats, fun activities for kids and links to other useful resources for parents to keep their children protected.

“At any given moment, kids are more likely to be online than adults,” said Larry Magid, founder, SafeKids.com. “Hackers know this and lure children with flashy pop-ups and fake prizes that are really malicious attacks intended to give the hacker control of the computer and access to personal information such as passwords and credit card numbers. I applaud Zone Labs for making an effort to help educate families about the dangers online.”

The third element of the Defend the ‘Net campaign was created to provide the media with a multitude of resources in order to better educate their readers, listeners and viewers about Internet risks. It consists of a special media Web site featuring free contributed articles for publication, radio and print public service announcements, an art and graphics gallery, statistics, a dictionary of common Internet-related terms, video clips of available b-roll for broadcast outlets, story ideas, and a list of recommended Web sites for consumers. Interested members of the media should e-mail press@zonelabs.com for more information.

“Zone Labs has always been known as the leader in complete Internet security solutions. Yet as hackers get more savvy and the PC becomes a commodity worth monetary value on the black market, consumers must also use care as they surf the ‘Net,” said Yecies. “Armed with the right information, people can defend the integrity of the Internet and defeat those who would exploit it for criminal purposes.”
