Understanding Antivirus Event Logs

By default, ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall security software records all virus scans and virus definition updates in a log, and archives the log file once every 7 days. You can customize your logging settings as necessary. See Managing Alerts and Logs Settings.

To view the Antivirus & Anti-spyware events:

  1. Open the ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall security software client.
  2. Click Tools > Logs in the startup page Menu toolbar.

    The Alerts and Logs window opens.

  3. Select Log Viewer from the navigation tree.
  4. From the Select log type drop-down menu select Antivirus.

    The Antivirus Log Viewer shows the list of Antivirus & Anti-spyware events. These are the fields in the Antivirus Log Viewer:


    The type of event that occurred. Possible values are:

    Update - virus and spyware signature definitions update.

    Scan - antivirus and anti-spyware scan.

    Treatment - action done to the infected files (optional).

    Date and Time

    Date and time of the action.


    Names and paths of the scanned and treated (optional) files.


    Possible values for the default action are:

    Update Install Completed, Update Cancelled, Update Failed

    Scan Completed, Scan Cancelled, Scan Failed

    These are status values for the optional actions (see Customizing Alerts and Logs Selection)

    File Repaired, File Repair Failed

    Treated, Treatment Failed

    Deleted, Delete Failed

    Restored, Restore Failed

    Virus Name

    Number of the files scanned and the number of detected infections.

To control the view of the log entries:

  1. From the Show Last drop-down menu select the number of entries to view in the Log Viewer table"

    • 100
    • 200
    • All
  2. Click Clear to delete all the entries.
  3. Click Refresh to view the latest entries.
