Managing Basic Firewall Zone Settings

The default ZoneAlarm Firewall settings are recommended, but you can change them, if necessary.

To change the security levels of the Zones:

  1. In the FIREWALL tab click Settings for the Basic Firewall category.

    The Basic Firewall panel with Current Settings sections and the History section shows.

  2. Move the slider to the desired setting for the Public Zone.
  3. Move the slider to the desired setting for the Trusted Zone.

    Note - If you move the slider to Off position, you turn the Firewall off. The main status bar shows the warning YOUR COMPUTER IS AT RISK. You can turn it back ON either by changing the security level back to Medium or High, or by clicking the Fix Now! button in the main status bar.

To add a host, an IP address, a range of IP addresses, or a Subnet to a Zone:

  1. In the FIREWALL tab click View Zones.

    The Firewall Settings window opens and shows the View Zones panel.

  2. Click Add and select one of these:
    • Host/Site.
    • IP Address.
    • IP Range.
    • Subnet.

    The Add Zone dialog box opens.

  3. From the drop-down menu select the Zone to which you want to add the new network or host:
    • Blocked.
    • Trusted.
    • Public.
  4. Fill in the required fields:
    • Host name and Description for the Host/Site.

      Click Lookup to get the IP address for the host.

    • IP Address and Description for the IP Address.
    • IP Range Start, IP Range End, and Description for the IP Range.
    • IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Description for the Subnet.
  5. Click OK.

    If you change your mind, and no longer wish to add the entry, click Cancel.

    The new entity shows in the table in the View Zones panel.

  6. Click OK.

To remove a host, an IP address, a range of IP addresses, or a Subnet from a Zone:

  1. In the FIREWALL tab click View Zones.

    The Firewall Settings window opens and shows the View Zones panel.

  2. Select the entry in the View Zones table.
  3. Click Remove.

    The Delete Confirmation dialog box opens.

  4. Click Yes to confirm deletion.

    If you change your mind, and no longer wish to delete the entry, click No.

  5. Click OK.

To edit a host, an IP address, a range of IP addresses, or a Subnet in a Zone:

  1. In the FIREWALL tab click View Zones.

    The Firewall Settings window opens and shows the View Zones panel show.

  2. Select the entry in the View Zones table.
  3. Click Edit.

    The Edit Zone dialog box opens.

  4. Change the parameters as necessary.
  5. Click OK.

    If you change your mind, and wish to discard the changes, click Cancel.

  6. Click OK.
