Monitoring virus protection
One of the most important things you can do to protect your computer against viruses is to install an anti-virus software product. Once installed, however, the anti-virus software must be kept up to date to ensure protection against new viruses as they are created.
No matter which anti-virus software product you use, if you find yourself in either of the following situations, you are putting your computer at risk for virus attack:
- Your trial or subscription period has expired.
- Your virus signature files are out of date.
Anti-virus Monitoring is a secondary defense system that tracks anti-virus software you have installed on your computer and lets you know when that anti-virus software is out-of-date or turned off. This secondary alerting system works as a back-up to your anti-virus software’s built-in warning and update system. Most anti-virus products include automatic updating, and alert you when your virus definition files become outdated. Note that not all anti-virus products are supported by this feature.
