Managing Security Settings for Gaming

To optimize system performance for online gamers, ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall gives the option to temporarily suspend security alerts, virus definition updates, and automatic scans.

Note - Game Mode settings do not override Block or Allow settings in your Programs List. If you configured ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall security software to always block a specific program, it continues to block that program even if you activate Game Mode with a setting of Allow.

To turn the Game Mode on and off:

  1. Open the Game Mode dialog window through one of these actions:
    • From the Tools menu select Game Mode.
    • Right-click on the ZoneAlarm icon in the system tray and select Game Mode.
  2. Select one of these automatic responses to program alerts:

    Answer all alerts with DENY

ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall will deny permission to requests from all the programs.

    Answer all alerts with ALLOW

ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall will grant permission to requests from all the programs.

  3. Select the Turn off Web Security for game mode checkbox to temporarily suspend Web Security. Leave this checkbox clear to leave Web Security enabled.
  4. Click Start Game Mode. It automatically changes to Stop Game Mode button.

The Game Mode remains active until you turn it off, or until you turn off ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall security software or shut down the computer.

  5. To turn the Game Mode off, click Stop Game Mode.

Note - If you close the Game Mode dialog window, the Game Mode will automatically turn off. To restart it, start from step 1.
