Configuring Advanced Application Control Settings

These are the advanced Application Control settings that you can change as necessary:

  • Microsoft Catalog Utilization - prevents alerts for programs that are in the MS Windows database of known and trustworthy applications. It is on by default, but ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall security software may still alert you about programs that are cataloged in the MS Windows database, if they attempt to act as a server outside of your Trusted Zone.
  • OSFirewall - detects when programs try to do something suspicious to the operating system, change the Internet Explorer settings, or change which programs load at startup.
  • Individual program permissions - ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall security software assigns permissions to programs that try to access the Internet or a local network, or to gain server privileges. Whether it does this in auto-learning mode, or with the help of SmartDefense Advisor, you can modify those permissions manually.
